I get two?

posted 1 year ago

On Saturday I attend my friend’s baby shower; they are expecting their first!  We, the attendants, were asked to bring a package of diapers to be entered into a drawing for a prize; most of us did just that in exchange for a raffle ticket.

When the raffle tickets were being handed out, one of the hostesses said, “these tickets are sticking together, please check you have only one.”  I checked mine quite well, even turned to the two ladies sitting on either side of me as we joked about it, yet saw each other check our own tickets – yep, we each had one ticket in our hands.  After the raffle tickets were handed out we began to play a game so I put my ticket in my back pocket.  There it sat for awhile; I stood up and walked to the kitchen, place yummy foods on my plate and walked back to the couch, sat down, ate.  Then stood up again to carry my used plate to the kitchen and back to the couch.

Finally, a raffle ticket number is going to be called out!  I reach into my back pocket and take out my ticket; all the ladies are holding onto our tickets like they are gold, starring at the numbers, not looking up (of course I am because I love to see how everyone reacts in many situations).  The last two numbers are being read off… shoot, not the numbers I am holding.  No one is getting excited, seems that number was not given to anyone.  Of well, weird, but another number will be called; again we all put our eyes and attention on our raffle ticket numbers and again the number I hold is not the winning ticket… or is it?

“Hold on, um… wait, the first number called, I have it!  But… oh my (turning my ticket over) how can one ticket have two different numbers?”  And both the winning numbers?  I truly am confused at this moment.  I then rub my ticket between my fingers again, where it becomes two.  “I have the winning ticket, and the winning ticket!?”  Both numbers called, I held.  I must have been deemed the one to win this drawing!

The irony in this?  I left my prize on the floor next to the couch where I sat.  Yes, I was suppose to win, but I wasn’t suppose to keep!  :)   And it was the sweet smell of sweet pea body spray and lotion – darn it.
