Plastic, oh plastic, why must you be so?
Have you ever wondered how much plastic you go through in one month? In one week? How about in one day? Ever since I have been recycling, the plastic keeps piling. Is there a way to rid one’s home of plastic? I am coming to the conclusion that one cannot.
Our plastic recycling is much larger than our paper, cardboard, foil and such; I would guess by about half! Imagaine that, trying to cut back on filling up Mother Earth of unnecessary evil and yet the evil itself accumulates. Good thing I do recycle now and also look for the most non-harmful packaging when at the store.
Ask yourself this next time you are grocery shopping: “What is in my cart that has NO plastic packaging?” You will soon find out your answer will be little to none. That is right, little to none - most foods and novelties are packaged in this; cereal is stored in plastic then wrapped in cardboard, produce is swathed in plastic, bread is smothered in plastic, sugars are pushed into plastic, cheese -oh-cheese is ever so suffocated in plastic.
So now you ask what has no plastic packaging before you bolt to your local supermarket? Fresh produce, as long as you DON’T put them in plastic, many chip bags, and if you purchase the ‘good’ chocolate bars, then they are not. Just a few at the top of my head.
How can I eliminate more of this unnecessary evil from my home? Purchase from health food stores you say? Look through their windows and you will see plastic, plastic, plastic, waiting ever so patiently to be touched and to have your organic foods thrown into it. Gross! Plastic leak, and not like a old dogs bladder - it leaks BPA and other nasty stuff - so why does the FDA allow businesses to contaminate us?
Argh! I guess we can only try our best and keep searching for answers.
